8. MARTIN: Stefan, I'm writing a news report. It's going to be about students in the U. S. and I want to write about you.
9. STEFAN: You are going to write about me!? OK.
10. MARTIN: Good. May I record you on this tape recorder?

15. STEFAN: My name is Stefan Nowak.
1. MARTIN: I want to get it right. Please spell it for me.

3. MARTIN: Where are you from?
4. STEFAN: I am from Poland.
5. MARTIN: I know you're from Poland. What city are you from? Warsaw?
6. STEFAN: No, I'm not from Warsaw. I am from Cracow. Where are you from?
7. MARTIN: I'm from Chicago. But I live in Baltimore now.
8. STEFAN: I lived in Warsaw too.
9. MARTIN: Before I lived in Baltimore, I lived in many cities. I lived in Washington, San Francisco, Paris, and Berlin.
10. STEFAN: That's many places!
11. MARTIN: Well, I write news stories and reports. Reporters go where there is news.

13. In English, one important way to talk about events in the past is to change the endings of words. [SAY IN ENGLISH] "I live in Baltimore now. I lived in Warsaw last year. Live. Lived. “I live” means I live in a place now, today, in the present time. "I lived" means I lived in a place some time in the past.

13. The most useful phrases for giving directions in English are [SAY IN ENGLISH] Straight ahead. [LOCAL LANGUAGE] which means go straight ahead. [SAY IN ENGLISH] Turn right. Turn left. [LOCAL LANGUAGE] which mean turn right or turn left. Another useful word is [SAY IN ENGLISH] "go" [LOCAL LANGUAGE] which means go in the direction of or to a specific place.
